Listening for my Great-Grandfather

I was watching some digital stories at storycenter.org to get ideas for my own digital story and I ran across "Listening for my Great-Grandfather". The words and sentences the author used kept your attention and almost made you want to close your eyes instead of watch the pictures. So that is an element I could incorporate into my project but the author is also a professional photographer. I then watched it once on mute and it told a similar story but in a different way. I don't see myself as a gift writer so in my digital project I will probably employ a visual method to capture my audience and tell my story. That is all for now.

Field Working (1st installment)

Field Working Notes

I visited the third floor of MBC for my 20 mintues of field working. Given that it was just past 8AM, I was surprised to see there were actually students present. The catch is there were only two of them and they were both adult students...figures.
The third floor is where a lot of the business school professors' offices are so professors are walking by rather frequently. At different times both of the adult students on the third floor had extended conversations with the professors that walked past.
What "disturbed" me was when one of the students sneezed the other responded with a "bless you" from clear across the side of the room. I don't know why i just found that unnecessary.

AFOL (Pronounce Awful)

AFOL (Pronounce Awful)

If you are an afol you are an Adult Fan of Lego. The discourse of adulthood and childhood have basically been merged and created this secondary discourse of AFOL's. I find the people a little bit odd in this discourse but where would we be without people who weren't afraid to break norms and be themselves? I realize this video is pretty long but I don't think you would regret watching it. Their creations will no doubt leave you full of awe.

AFOL A Blocumentary from AFOL on Vimeo.

Passion combines with creativity in this documentary that features a selection of AFOLs (Adult Fans Of LEGO) from the Pacific NorthWest.

What I want to get out of class

I think we're at school to challenge our general way of thinking. I liked what Mr. Lovvorn was briefly telling us about literacy and it made me interested to learn more about it. So my hope is that at the end of this semester I will have been challenged to see literacy in a different way and gain a new perspective on what writing is.
